Well, since this Saturday was the Rapture there was quite a bit of talk from those in the town. Figured that with the exception of the children we’d all still be behind and having a wonderful time come six of the clock. ;-) But I digress…
I took off work a bit early and though I didn’t carpool I was down there the earliest I have been since the start of the season, 8:30PM. The front gate was locked and so I had to walk the LONG way…which wasn’t all that long since I had a rolling cart and help; but sucked for those who had to hand carry in a bunch of stuff. However, I was so early I was able to enjoy sitting down and chatting with people before I went to bed. Which was nice because I like my Guildies, they’re good folks and good company.
I found out that our tavern owner’s daughter would be Queen on Saturday – which is fun, to see someone else give that part a whirl.
Misty showed up with several “Raptor” signs, my favorite “BEHOLD” with a raptor with a halo. She’s very creative.
At six of the clock there was the countdown to the Rapture, where we wished everyone a Happy Rapture and there were kisses all around.
I participated in the “bringing home the bacon” gig, of course as my whore-ish self. There’s been an on-going gig, based on an actual tradition, where newly married couples have to vouch that for the last year they’ve not had one harsh word between them – the winners got a flitch of bacon (yeah, that’s a whole bunch of meat.) Well, I was asked to come forward, for comedy’s sake, of course and I decided to bring a few Yeomen as my husbands…I mean, if none of us has had a harsh word we could win more than once, right? In fact, I ended up with more once I walked up there, I think the final count was five (I got weekends off).
Well, right before us a man was mobbed by his many wives, who apparently didn’t know about one another. Our group was more congenial, but Queenie dismissed us, but with charm, grace and a smile. It was great!
Lacey and I were walking around looking for the final gift for her RUB, we missed a fist fight, some people’s children, honestly, too much drink and too stupid people, but I’m sure in the end they got what they had coming to them.
It was Guild awards that night along with Guild Cup, a lovely tradition where we drink to the Guild, the Year, our loved ones past and present. I managed to win a Guild Award, a medallion – I was broken hearted two years ago when I lost my award, which was in pin form – it opened and fell off – this one I’m not so worried that will happen.
At the end of the day, we managed to leave all the snacks out, all the juice out, all the everything out and all the dishes unwashed – Sunday started out not as fun as it started with ants.
